Excel barcode font not scanning

Published: · 3 min read · Problem
Do this in the free app: app.mylabelmaker.com. No signup. Design the label, then print on a Zebra or download PNG / PDF / ZPL.

If a handheld will not lock onto an Excel barcode font, the font is usually missing start/stop characters or was printed too small. Rebuild the same values as native CODE128 on a 2×1 (or your size) and test one label. Open the free label maker to do it now.

Good to know: Some fonts need a license. We do not install or distribute barcode fonts.

How to print from your spreadsheet

  1. Open the free label maker and set the size of your stock.
  2. Add a native barcode (not an Excel font) and map the spreadsheet column, for example {{code}}. Use a column of keep the value as text; do not “print” the font to PDF and crop.
  3. Preview row 1 and a row near the end of the sheet.
  4. Print the stack on a Zebra, or export PDF / ZPL.

UPC vs CODE128

UPC-A must be a real 12-digit UPC. A CODE128 of your internal SKU is fine for in-house, not for retail GS1 checkout.

Print or save

Zebra thermal: print from the browser with Browser Print at the printer’s DPI. Everyone else: download PNG, JPEG, SVG, PDF, or ZPL. JSON keeps the editable master.
